BOTANIST born Mohlomi Mathlodi, is a reggae artist signed to Maximum Stylez Records and Publishing and is a performer to be reckoned with. His love for music started at the tender age of 8 and he has since increased his arsenal of skill to include other genres of music as well as instruments such as Drums and Piano. Mohlomi Emmanuel Moatlhodi better known as “Botanist”, was born in the Vaal Triangle, in Evaton south of Johannesburg. Botanist was drawn to music at the tender age of 8, started o as a pianist and vocalist. Botanist fell in love with reggae music at 11 years old and has never looked back since then. To date, his arsenal of skill include being a drummer, bassist, Hip-Hop Artist and session artist for Neo Soul. He joined Maximum Stylez in 2016 and is working on a series of singles and an EP. The country’s political disorder, poverty, injustice and the lack of social cohesion strongly inuenced his lyrical content and music as he embraced the faith and the movement of Rastafari.
In the past he has worked with Bon Pot, K9 and DJ Kenzo, he has a riddim out in Zimbabwe called “Machete”. This has led him to rubbing shoulders with international acts such as Gappy Ranks. He has shared the stage with the crème de la crème of the reggae music scene, both locally and internationally, including Skeleton Blazer, Black Dillinger, Fruity Star and Pepsin, Norris Man and was on stage with Chronixx, and ZincFence band from Jamaica, in June 2016. He joined Maximum Stylez in 2016 and has recently completed his e.p titled The Highway from which he has since dropped two single latest being Miss Goodie which got him to perform at the famous Ragga nights at the former Bassline now Newtown music factory. In 2019 January Botanist released a brand new album called Game Changer which was nominated for 2019 South African Music Awards best Reggae Album .
